CRO Manager

Most CRO roles come with a catch: not enough traffic, not enough buy-in, or too much internal politics to get anything meaningful shipped.

This one doesn’t.

You’ll own conversion for a nine-figure eCommerce brand with millions of monthly visitors, founders who already believe in CRO, and budget behind the function. The last serious CRO push increased revenue by 15–20%, but testing since then has been tactical rather than strategic. Your job is to turn that untapped potential into a structured CRO programme that compounds learning and revenue over time.

The traffic is there. The budget is there. Now they need someone who knows what to do with it.

WHO THEY ARE

An arts and crafts ecommerce group founded in 2016, now serving over 5 million customers across 20+ countries and adding 150,000 new ones every month. They launch hundreds of products a month with working artists and run local platforms in each market. Revenue is up around 400% year on year on a team of 35, which tells you most of what you need to know about the pace.

  • Ownership beats titles. An entire Black Friday campaign once went to an intern because he was the best person for it.

  • Data settles arguments, not seniority.

  • Bias to action. Decide, act, learn, move again.

  • Responsibility scales with output, not tenure.

  • High trust, high bar, adults talking to adults.

This is a fully remote, full-time role. Netherlands-based candidates can be hired as employees; everyone else is brought on as a contractor.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU

  • A brand refresh landing later this year gives you a natural moment to shape the site's next chapter from the ground up.

  • You own CRO from day one. No inherited roadmap, no legacy process to unwind. You build the function the way it should work.

  • Resourcing scales with you. Right now it's just one internal team member on design/dev, but there's budget to bring in agencies or hire more people the moment the workload calls for it.

  • Your development is funded. Courses, specialist training, or bringing in outside expertise, whatever actually makes you better at the job.

WHAT YOU'RE GETTING INTO

  • Own CRO for the flagship brand, where the majority of the group’s volume sits and the biggest untapped opportunities exist.

  • Audit the customer journey and identify where conversion is being lost across the homepage, collections, PDPs, cart, checkout and key acquisition flows.

  • Build the CRO roadmap from scratch, turning customer data, research, founder ideas and commercial priorities into a clear testing strategy.

  • Own experiment prioritisation end to end - deciding what deserves traffic and development resources, and what should be killed before it wastes either.

  • Turn the current 1–2 week testing cadence into a structured programme where each experiment builds on previous learnings.

  • Build the company’s landing-page testing process from the ground up.

  • Work closely with the internal design/development resource reporting into you, improving both speed and quality of execution over time.

  • Move experiment history out of spreadsheets and create a proper source of truth for hypotheses, results and learnings.

  • Make CRO visible to the wider business: what you’re testing, why you’re testing it, what you learned and what happens next.

WHO YOU ARE

  • You’ve owned CRO from inside an eCommerce brand, close to the numbers and the results.

  • You’ve worked on a Shopify store with enough traffic and revenue to make testing meaningful.

  • You’re comfortable digging into data, behaviour, and conversion friction.

  • You’re hands-on. You lead the function, but you’re still at work.

  • You can turn research into strong hypotheses and prioritise what’s actually worth testing.

  • You have a sharp eye for what’s not working on a page.

  • You can brief designers clearly without needing to design or code.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

First 30 days

  • Homepage and top PDPs audited, with findings written down and shared, not just noticed.

  • Full funnel mapped in Triple Whale. Baseline conversion rate, AOV and revenue per session locked in per traffic source and per device, so every later claim is measurable against something real.

  • Testing backlog built and prioritised, visible to the founders, with your reasoning for the order attached.

  • First tests shipped. Not planned, shipped.

  • First landing page live.

  • Customer research started: first survey out, on-site polls and post-purchase questions running and collecting.

Day 60:

  • Multiple landing pages live, each built for a specific angle and audience rather than one generic page reused.

  • A handful of conversion tests completed, with wins and losses both documented. Losses count as delivery here.

  • Freelance or agency design and dev capacity in place and producing, so page output is not capped by your own hours.

  • Permanent hiring brief written and roles opened for the team you want to build.

  • You know what the customer actually wants, from real answers, and the survey roadmap is rebuilt on that instead of on assumptions.
